PLEIN SOLEIL (Clément, 1960)

November 20 7:30 pm 9:30 pm

There’s nothing so engrossing as watching a truly intelligent thriller,

writes critic James Berardinelli about Plein Soleil (aka Purple Noon or Het sol)

One of the leading French directors of the post-WW2 era, René Clément, adapting Patricia Highsmith’s legendary character Tom Ripley for the screen starring none other than the leading French actor of the era, Alain Delon (known for his work with Antonioni, Melville, Visconti and more). When Matt Damon played Ripley in the 20th c. American, moralistic adaptation he was rendered almost invisible playing opposite Jude Law. There’s no chance that a young Alain Delon is going to be anything but invisible. Delon’s Ripley is dangerous, magnetic, amoral, riveting – simply enthralling. You’ll celebrate his amorality and want him to have it all.
