DESCRIPTION:Winner of Best Screenplay at the Berlin Film Festival 2025\, KONTINENTAL ’25 is a low-budget\, dark and razer-sharp satire by the anarchistic\, critically-lauded Romanian director Radu Jude.\nWith his earlier films – Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn and Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World\, Jude established a unique style in breaking rules of genre\, rationality and even decency. \nBlending drama and comedy\, KONTINENTAL ’25 dissects topics such as the housing crisis\, post-socialist economics\, nationalism and the power of language to maintain social status. It is a razor-sharp and absurd story that demonstrates director Radu Jude’s complete control over his means of expression. Continental ’25 is partly an homage to Roberto Rossellini’s classic Europa ’51\, but made in an indie style with the modest means of a low-budget production. In Rossellini’s film\, the moral dilemma leads to action that creates meaning and change. However\, Jude’s protagonist Orsolya (Eszter Tompa) finds no one who understands her and becomes increasingly desperate for external validation. Her predicament would be easy to condemn if Orsolya’s moral relativism were not such an uncomfortably accurate reflection of a modern affliction few of us are completely immune to.\n\nTickets (100-120) Here or at the door. SUMMARY:ILOVERUSS (Mozard\, 2025)
DESCRIPTION:Some of you may recall the 3-projector exhibition of ILOVERUSS at Hypnos Theatre x Nordisk Panorama 2024. It was already at that time in the middle of the editing process that would result in the single-screen feature film ILOVERUSS\, which premiered CPH:DOX 2025. \nTo install 3 projectors and accompanying screens in Hypnos Theatre meant we needed to remove all of but a small number of the cinema seats. It also meant we needed to put a hole in the wall to accommodate one of the projector’s throw distance. We also needed rip up and eventually replace all of the carpet. To say that ILOVERUSS took over Hypnos and my world for 2weeks\, doesn’t quite capture the extent of it. – there was all of the preparation and the dismantling\, even the sign for the exhibition still hangs outside of the door into the theatre. \nbut this is only interesting because of what the artist and director Tova Mozard did with ILOVERUSS. She found not only a profound friendship\, but a screen-ready and uniquely compelling character in Russ – a long time resident of L.A. with a very\, very long list of uncredited extra roles in television and movies – and then she centered him. The film largely depicts the daily life of a friendship through 20 years of raw and personal footage offering “the backside of the seductive movie city […] a world of diners\, swimming pools and bungalows\, portrayed with an artist’s eye for the sunny Californian surface – and for the twilight of the mind that over the years settles over her close friend.” (CPH:DOX) But more interestingly\, what settles into the viewer\, at least this viewer who spent weeks with it looping in the surround\, is how unsettling it is that we can only live without comprehending that each and every “extra” lives a deep\, profound life. Not everyone is as camera-ready as Russ\, having spent decades thinking of himself in front of cameras\, without it really ever capturing him\, until now. \n  \nILOVE RUSS | Tova Mozard | 2025 | 90 min | DCP \nTickets available soon.

Fleurus är nuvarande sveriges endast filmuthyrningbutik och cafe – en filial av Hypnos Theatre – som ligger på Karlskronaplan 11 i Malmö. \nBiodlaren är ett finstämt drama om en far och en dotter som på olika sätt bär på en gemensam sorg. Filmen skildrar med stor känslighet både det vardagliga och det existentiella\, från bikupans surrande till en relation i gungning. Det är en berättelse om förlust\, tystnad och längtan efter närhet\, men också om hoppet som kan spira när man vågar möta det svåra. Biodlaren utforskar kärleken\, naturen och livets cykler\, samtidigt som den berättar om en längtan efter ett sammanhang\, långt från storstädernas brus. \nI huvudrollen ser vi Adam Lundgren (Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar\, Känn ingen sorg\, Vår tid är nu) och vid hans sida två imponerande värmlänningar – guldbaggenominerade Marika Lindström (Bränn alla mina brev\, Vår tid är nu\, Om jag vänder mig om) och nya stjärnskottet Hedvig Nilsson. \n  \n \n

Först ut är stumfilmen Stormiga nätter från 1931 av Ivan Kavaleridze. En film som skildrar spänningen mellan det gamla bondesamhället och moderniseringen i det sovjetiska samhället. Filmen blev förbjuden av myndigheterna då den önskade propagandan för det sovjetiska projektet inte bedömdes tydligt nog.\nFilmen presenteras av Nataliia Neshevets forskare\, designer och projektledare inom visuell kultur som tidigare varit verkställande ansvarig för Kyivbiennalen.\nFri entréOBS! Failing to deliver a clear propaganda message that favored Soviet life\, the film was banned. In 2001\, the film was rediscovered.

DESCRIPTION:Pasolini’s final film is highly provocative and legendary for it’s infamy\, and we are proud to present for you this rare opportunity to experience it in the cinema. Warning. It is not for everyone.\nMalmö Antifascista and Hypnos Theatre present the newest edition of Cinema Resistenza featuring Pasolini’s legendary film\, Salò\, or the 120 Days of Sodom\nBased on the book 120 Days of Sodom by the Marquis De Sade – a work conceived as a revolutionary attack against the four pillars of French society\, designed to bring down the old order. Pasolini transposes De Sade’s 18th century allegory to the final days of fascist Italy. Four fascist libertines – a duke\, a bishop\, a magistrate and a president – round up 9 teenage boys and girls and subject them to 120 days of physical\, mental and sexual torture. \n“Pasolini has constructed an elaborate allegory that uses 1944-45 fascism in Italy to represent all the ills of the modern world (circa 1975) where corruption and decadence have gained unlimited power. Nothing seen in Salo is intended to be taken literally; viewers are to look at it as an intentionally grim and repulsive physical metaphor for a universal moral and spiritual condition. […] Processing Salo is a difficult experience.
